How I Run My 20K/month Solo Business (updated version)

August was my best month yet. I closed €55,000 in business.

In August...😅

When these things happen, I'm always amazed.

Not sure if it's (still) my impostor syndrome surfacing from the deep. I do not know.

It's been 3.5 years now running Inscaler, alone.

Still just me, running everything.

Inscaler is on track for €230,000 to €250,000 this year. Up again from last year.

141K invoiced already - 220K already won so far

But…I've never been this busy…yet productive.

I have written about how I run Inscaler before, a few times.

Here's how it looks now: the business didn't slow down. It grew.

And it will grow even more in Q3 and Q4 (already contractualised clients for 220K in total this year).

On Wednesday, for example, I had calls back-to-back: a podcast recording in the late morning, a client meeting straight after, then two more clients, and to finish at 7 pm, another discovery call with a prospect based in the US.

No gaps between them.

I am still one person.

Delivery, content, invoicing, prospecting, admin.

People ask me how I hold it together with numbers like these.

Here's what actually keeps things moving.

SPOILER: thanks to my AI infrastructure, I can now scale Inscaler even further, to highs I didn't know were possible.

But let's go in order.

PARA, for everything

I use Tiago Forte's PARA method everywhere: Projects, Areas, Resources, Archives.

Every tool I touch runs on PARA.

My email is PARA. My reminders are PARA. My notes are PARA.

A client is a Project until the contract ends; then it moves to Archives.

Content, finances, family and admin live in Areas.

My Resources are all the frameworks, podcasts I listen to, and processes I have built over the years.

PARA for me is not just a way to increase productivity - it's a way of thinking, managing, and organising my work and life.

I stumbled upon this method back in 2023, and I think it's been one of the most important productivity "things" that has ever happened to me.

Claude Code

Claude Code has been my main AI for sometime now.

It runs in my terminal. It can see my calendar, Attio, Drive, and Slack if I let it.

The first thing I did was feed it everything about Inscaler and me: who I am, how the business works, how I write, how I set up clients.

I sat down and gave a 200-question interview to Claude; it resulted in a 5-page md file.

It reads all of that before it does anything.

Every client folder, tone rule, and recurring task lives there. I update it like a notebook.

Every week I go back to my md files and try to keep them tidy.

On top of that, I built a few small skills and agents.

One reads my calendar and CRM every morning. It sends me a brief before I even open my laptop.

Another rebuilds a live view of the whole business twice a day: how many clients are running, how many are onboarding, it's a focus on clients delivery.

Both update themselves.

I don't touch them.

Grok Bot, the new one

The newest thing I'm testing is an agent on Grok. It's early. I only started this month.

So far, it books meetings, reschedules the ones that move, and fills out the forms nobody wants to touch.

The chief of staff is the first bot I have built and it's insane: I give him (or her…) a PDF to compile, sign and send, and it does it.

Doesn't have much context about me yet, but I'm now starting to teach and train the Bots.

It also watches X for me and pulls out what's worth my time.

Now I'm testing two other 2 agents/bots that I currently have on Claude Code.

Not sure yet if it'll beat Claude Code. I'll know soon.

Still one-to-one

None of this changes how I work with clients.

Every client is a different, complicated project.

Different people, different problems. I'll never standardise that part.

I will never use AI for client delivery either.

My work is bespoke, 1:1, curated consultancy.

I have frameworks and years of material, but delivery stays one-to-one, every time.

AI and the rest boost my productivity; my clients get my creativity.

And I hope it stays like that.

Thanks for reading this far. See you all next week!
